Being Okay for Today

Yesterday, I was live on Facebook with a colleague and we were talking about the fact that being okay for today is perfectly fine!

We had a good conversation about it (link at bottom), but it got me thinking about how much time I have wasted trying to be perfect. In fact what spurred the conversation was me trying to make a line perfect on my website for almost 30 minutes. 30 minutes on a stupid line! In the end, I decided it was easier to change something else and just remove the line, because “being okay for today is perfectly fine!”

Being okay with today…

…allows us to appreciate the moment.

…allows us to learn from our mistakes and grow.

…allows us to prioritize our mental health.

…allows us to set realistic goals and make meaningful progress.

…allows us to push past our fear of failure.

…allows us focus on building things better for tomorrow.

Getting stuck on being perfect limits all of these things!

In the hustle and bustle of life, it's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of perfection. We often find ourselves fixated on making every detail flawless, whether it's in our work, personal projects, or daily routines. However, this relentless pursuit can sometimes become a roadblock to our growth and happiness. That's why embracing the beauty of today, with all its imperfections, is a crucial step towards building a better tomorrow.

The Power of Being Okay for Today

Being okay with today means accepting where you are at this moment—acknowledging your achievements, learning from your mistakes, and understanding that not everything has to be perfect. This acceptance opens up space for genuine contentment and gratitude for the present. It's about recognizing the value in the journey, not just the destination. When we allow ourselves to be okay with today, we shift our focus from what's lacking to what's thriving, from what's wrong to what's right.

Growth Beyond Perfection

The quest for perfection often leads to a fear of failure, which in turn can inhibit our willingness to take risks and try new things. But here's a refreshing perspective: getting stuck on being perfect limits growth. Embracing imperfection, on the other hand, fosters a growth mindset. It encourages us to step out of our comfort zones, learn new skills, and tackle challenges head-on. Every mistake becomes a lesson, and every setback a stepping stone to success.

Building Better Tomorrows

Focusing on building things better for tomorrow starts with the small steps we take today. It's about making progress, not achieving perfection. Set realistic goals, celebrate small victories, and remember that progress is a cumulative result of all the tiny imperfections along the way. As we learn to be more forgiving of ourselves and embrace the natural flow of life, we pave the way for innovation, creativity, and resilience.

A Call to Action: Embrace the Now

Being okay with today is not about settling for less but about appreciating what we have while striving for what we want. It's a balance between contentment and ambition, acceptance and improvement. By letting go of the need for perfection, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities, growth, and happiness. So, let's embrace the imperfections of today and look forward to building something even better tomorrow.

Let's make a conscious effort to celebrate the present and all its beautiful imperfections. Encourage yourself and those around you to see the beauty in being perfectly imperfect. Share your imperfections, share your mistakes, the lessons learned, and how you've grown from them. Embracing today with a positive and open heart is the first step towards a brighter, more fulfilling tomorrow.

You sharing today will encourage someone else to share tomorrow.

Eventually no one will be afraid to talk about their failures and no one will be stuck on being perfect.

And now I have a weird version of that movie Pay It Forward in my head; where everyone is sharing imperfections instead of paying forward goodwill.

Well….maybe we can do both at the same time!

Very good article. I agree. Not only do I agree. I practice it. for example. I wanted to mention something else. It is also ok to take a day off. On July 4th just happened. I run a successful business and I am allowed to take the day off if i want to. so I did. July 4th, would you believe that I was told why I was taking the day off? I told them its my business and if everyone is off today , why as a small business I can't take a day off? It's my business, I can take off whenever I want.... take time to take time for yourself as well as for your menta…

Exactly! Even small businesses and entrepreneurs deserve a day off. Even more so in some ways. 🤩

As an entrepreneur perfection is something I struggle with in many aspects. Whether its redoing a social media post 10 times, nitpicking every little detail on new designs, or delaying the launch of a products because it isn't perfect. I know that you are your worst critic and once I truly started to understand that, I have achieved more goals because I am not holding myself back anymore. It is also really nice for someone else to tell you to ease up on yourself, makes you think of all the positives.

100% agree! We can get into a rut of dwelling on the imperfections, instead of focusing on all we are accomplishing 🤩

totally ok not to be perfect and fine. we're not robots. We will have good days and bad days. It's what we do with the bad days that count. On a bad day will you just lie there and do nothing or try to push through. On my very bad days, my personal experience. I tend to go for a walk, pick up a phone and call a friend, or do something fun for just me. Spoil me. with an ice cream cone or a good fun funny movie. We need a break from working every day, especially if you're an entrepreneur. I worked so hard at my business that i forgot to give myself a lunch. The…
