Have you ever caught yourself saying, "I have to go to work," or "I have to attend that meeting"? It's such a common phrase, but what if I told you that changing just two little words could make a huge difference in your life? Instead of saying, "I have to," start saying, "I get to." This simple change in language can transform your view on life and make everything just a bit better.

Think about it for a moment. When you say, "I have to," it feels like a chore, an obligation, something you’d rather not do. It’s easy to get bogged down by the daily grind when everything feels like a burden. But what if you looked at it differently? "I get to" suggests opportunity, privilege, and gratitude. It reminds us that what we’re doing is something we’re lucky to be able to do.

Let’s apply this to our jobs. How often do we drag ourselves out of bed, groaning, “I have to go to work”? In reality, having a job is a privilege. Many people don’t have the opportunity to work, and they wish they did. So, instead of focusing on the negatives, let’s flip the script. “I get to go to work” means you have a job that provides for you and your family. It means you have a place to go, colleagues to interact with, and skills to use. It’s a reminder of the blessings in your life, even on the tough days.

Now, this mindset shift isn’t just about work. It applies to all areas of life. “I have to pick up the kids from school” becomes “I get to pick up the kids from school.” You have a family to care for and spend time with. “I have to cook dinner” turns into “I get to cook dinner.” You have food to prepare and loved ones to share it with. Every “have to” can become a “get to” with just a little perspective change.

I have to be honest here – I’m still a work in progress on this. I catch myself slipping into the “have to” mentality more often than I’d like. It’s not always easy to reframe our thoughts, especially when life gets stressful. But recognizing this is the first step toward change. We all have to work on this. It’s a continuous journey of adjusting our mindset and finding the positive in our daily lives.

Making this shift can bring a wave of positivity into your life. It’s about seeing the good in every situation and recognizing the opportunities you have. Gratitude replaces obligation, and your outlook becomes brighter. The tasks don’t change, but your attitude does, making all the difference.

So, the next time you catch yourself saying, “I have to,” stop and rephrase it to “I get to.” Embrace the power of this small change and watch how it transforms your life. You’ll find more joy in the everyday and appreciate the opportunities you might have overlooked before. Remember, life is full of get-to moments – you just have to see them. And remember, even if it feels like a struggle sometimes, we're all in this together, working to see the brighter side of life.
